I'm back

So it has been a long while since I have been on here. And I am glad to say that I am finally back! Since the last time I have been on here, life has been a little crazy for me.  Its going great though! I'm loving being back in Chico teaching the little ones how to swim.  And babysitting for one of the cutest babies ever! Also I do think I have one of the best jobs because I get the opportunity to play with kids the whole time I'm there.  Even when I'm not in the water, I can play with them or hold babies because my boss's kids love to have someone play with them when they are at work with her.  Now other than loving work, school is a little crazy especially this upcoming week. I love the field I decided to get my master's in but I can't exactly say I love the school part... I would so much rather just be able to go out there and get a job without being back in school (which I am considering doing at this point since it's only my first semester in grad school).

But on to the running now...  Well I've been going to see my chiropractor and he has helped tremendously in making my hip heal faster than it would have otherwise with the exercises he has given me to do and when he works on it during my appointments.  Plus I started back up on doing insanity a few days a week and I do believe that doing those workouts help my hips get stronger and more flexible (from the stretching warm-up and warm-down). So I was able to start back up on the running goal on Tuesday the 26th of September. A few days after exactly a month from when I had to stop. I haven't decided yet but I may either just have this day as a restarting point or just add on a month to my original start day...we will see. I'll probably make the decision in the next week or so.

I hope everyone is excited for the fall season here! I know I am. Pumpkin is one of my favorite things to bake with and the season is finally here for it :) Have a great rest of your first Sunday in October and I'll be back in a few days!

Break :(

So I have to take a couple weeks off from running. I know it ruins my streak but if I decided not to take it off, I most likely would've ended up not being able to run at all for a long time like the last time I got injured. So I decided before it got extremely bad that I should just take a little break now. I will still be keeping track of my mileage once I can run again and will start up running every day again but for the time being, we're going on a little break. My hip was starting to get uncomfortably painful and I didn't want it to get like last time. I have decided that the amount of time I take off now I will add onto the end of the year so when May 22, 2012 comes around I will now not be done then but will have at least 2 weeks added onto that. Luckily it worked out simi nice where my first day off was August 22 so I ran for exactly 3 months so then once I start up again it will be easy to figure it out.

Cutting back

So I've decided I'm going to cut back a little bit on the mileage these next couple weeks in order to get my hip to heal and get somewhat back to normal. I'm so disappointed because I was feeling so great and starting to really get back into good running shape but oh well that's life I guess :(
Today wasn't a bad day and the worst part is, is that once I do get going on my run my hip feels almost normal but then its when I'm doing other things that it will really bother me. For instance, it hurts more to walk and climbing out of the pool when I'm teaching swim lessons to show the kids how to do something doesn't feel very good either. But as long as I am able to keep up the daily runs I am fine with it. And I figure it might be good for me to take a few weeks easy on the running and instead do other cross training activities to keep things nice and mixed up.  During my run today I ran a couple miles to the gym from my house then I did my workout there and finished the run with a mile home and walked the rest of the way. I'm also hoping to add in a few different types of workouts this semester so we'll see how all that goes.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and I'll keep you posted on my hip issues.

Bidwell Run

Hey all,

So these last couple weeks haven't been the best for my running. I've had to resort to pool runs at least three days a week because my hip started hurting again.  But this time instead of it being my left hip, it has switched over to my right one. :(  I think it was due to my 5.5 mile run 2 weeks ago and then driving 3 hours right after then running 12 the following day.  I believe it was more due to the sitting than the 12 though since sitting is the reason for a lot of the hips problems in people today.  But I've still been keeping up on the daily runs and getting in relatively the same amount of mileage but just doing it in the water instead of on land.  Yesterday I did 5 through the park early in the morning with my friend.  I forgot how great it feels to get up and do a morning run at 5:30 during the summer.  The temperature was perfect and everything is just so peaceful at that time of the morning.

Last Thursday I tried Bikram Yoga for the very first time.  I really enjoyed it but I don't know if I could commit myself to going and sitting in a really hot room multiple times a week for 90 minutes at a time.  You do feel great after but the thought of going to sit in a 100 degree, or whatever temperature it is, room when its 95 degrees outside is probably one the most unappealing things to do! Maybe if it were winter I would be a little more willing to get up and go sit in a ridiculously hot room.  But I am going to start doing yoga and pilates classes in order to help loosen and strengthen my hips so they will hopefully no longer bother me for my running.

I hope every one is having a fantastic week and getting in their last few days of summer vacation unless they have already gone back to school (or never had a summer vacation).

Chico

Lately things have been a little busy for me! Last week I was busy working all week along with getting my runs in and working out at the gym or going to swim practice.  I'm slowly getting my mileage back up there again and it is feeling great.  I kept it at 35 again last week and will be around there this week too just to get my legs used to that distance for a little while before I increase it again.  Last Friday night I went out planning on doing 10, I decided to do it long Friday this week instead of Saturday since I didn't want to do a long one Saturday night after my long day at work on Saturday.  But as I was going I was feeling pretty good and ended up increasing the distance to a 12 miler instead of a 10. My legs haven't been hurting me at all and I hardly feel my hip most of the time.  A few days ago my hip was feeling a little tight and was hurting after I completed my run but it never bothers me as I'm running which is fine with me!
This week has been another nice week, our weather has been perfect and I've pretty much been able to run at any time of the day rather than having to get up at the crack of dawn or go late at night.  Yesterday when I got up to Chico I went over to Bidwell Park to get my run in, I felt awesome! I ended up getting an extra mile in because I just didn't want to stop so I did 6 instead of 5 last night. I missed running in Chico and I forgot how much I love running through the park. I don't know what it is about being up here but it just makes me want to keep going and go faster than I normally do when I'm at home.  I can't wait until next week when the training programs start that I'm helping out with this year. Its going to be fun to see everyone again and see new faces that will be joining for the first time to complete their very first marathon. After I get off work today I will be going for my run before I have to go back home for the night to get my car mirror fixed. I'll be getting in another 5 today and either a 10 or 12 miler on Saturday.  I will try to be a lot better this week about posting every other day rather than only posting every other week.  I hope everyone's summer is still going great and good luck to all the kids going back to school this coming week!

Vacation

I haven't been on here in a really long time and I'm sorry about that! This whole last week I have been on vacation up at Lake Almanor and the week before that I was pretty busy so I just didn't have much time to sit down and write on here.  But I have been keeping up my daily runs and been slowly increasing my mileage.  This whole last week was a little hard on my legs because it was so hilly up by the lake where our cabin was.  I loved being able to run in a new location but after the first two days running up there my legs were getting pretty sore so I had to do one day of running in the water.  Throughout the week I ran 5 miles everyday and no matter where I ran there was some sort of hill whether it was rolling or just a gradually uphill slope.  Yesterday I did a 10 miler and ran from our cabin into the town of Chester. Starting out from our cabin I knew I would be doing a couple miles of hills since that is the route I had been doing throughout the week but I didn't think about the rest of it before getting to the big downhill part of the run so about the first 5 miles that I ran was going up hill, every now and then there was a little flat road or spurts of downhill in there but overall more uphill than anything else. But then after than it was relatively flat or gradual downhill the rest of the way making the 2nd half of the run a lot better than the first half.  I will be really happy to be back to flat roads this coming week and only doing a hill workout maybe once a week instead of every day! My mileage is starting to get up there and the last few weeks I have been averaging about 35 miles so I'm slowly getting back up to the good number of 50 per week :)

Long day

Saturday's are very long days for me.  This week I had to be at work by 5am and I like to do some form of exercise before I have to be at work because it makes the rest of the day a whole lot better.  So last night I set my alarm for 3:15 and I was planning on running when I got up in the morning.  But the run this morning did not end up happening (but insanity did) because I had the craziest dream last night and was a little freaked out to run outside.  And since some people are still out partying or doing whatever crazy things at 3 in the morning, I didn't really feel too comfortable going out by myself so I figured staying in and doing insanity was a much better idea! Then later when I got home from work I took my 2 and a half hour nap that has become part of my Saturday routine this summer.  I went running around 9 and surprisingly my legs were feeling pretty decent. I was planning on doing 6 but as I was running I figured I might as well run an hour and since I was so close to 8 miles at an hour, I decided to run 4 more minutes to get in the whole 8 miles.  The weather was finally decent to run in tonight too, there was a little breeze and instead of the temperature being in the 90s, I'm guessing it was in the low 80s or so maybe a little cooler.  And tonight I decided to take a risk and run out in the country while it was dark, not something I normally do since there isn't a whole lot of people to see if I were to get taken.  I've decided I'm not too much of a fan of it because even with my night vest on cars really don't pay much attention to you and its just a little bit dangerous so I'll probably sit to running throughout town when I go out in the dark from now on.  I hope everyone is having a great weekend and I'm heading to Santa Cruz for the day tomorrow.  Enjoy your Sunday!!

Water Running

Hey there,

So today after I got done with my hour or so at swim practice I decided that instead of doing most of my run on land today that I'd do my running in the pool.  My running coach made me do it when I was training for my marathon and my shins were getting really bad.  Its the best substitute for land running to get the same effect mentally and physically.  I started running in the shallow end with my feet hitting the bottom of the pool but that made my toes really sore after a little while and my calves were getting really tight so I switched back to the way I did it before and went and got a water belt to put on.  Then I did it in a little deeper water with my feet not hitting the bottom, felt a lot better.  Its amazing to think that moving your legs back and forth so fast in the running motion actually gives you a decently good workout because you go absolutely no where fast! You look and feel ridiculous especially when you're in a pool with a couple different swim practices going on.  But I got a total of around 40 mins in which is equivalent to about 5 miles since for me about 8 mins of pool running is equal to about a mile.  Then later when I went into the gym to go to the Spin class, I ran a mile on the treadmill before the spin class started so I got around 6 miles in today but it was easier on my legs since I did most of it in the water :)

Happy 4th

I hope everyone had a fantastic 4th of July!! I know I did in my extremely short trip down to San Diego. It has been a while since I have had the time to write on here but I have been keeping up with my daily runs and did around 25 last week for total mileage.  These last couple weekends have been full of spending a lot of time inside my car! Last weekend I drove up to Chico Thursday morning and had to drive back Friday night to work in Modesto Saturday then I had to go back up to Chico Sunday to work up in Chico Monday and had to come back Monday night to be back at work in Modesto Tuesday morning.  It was well worth the trips up to Chico tho! I was able to get a great 6 mile morning run in at Bidwell Park with my friend Jen and her doggy. The weather was perfect and it was great to be back in the park running again!
So this past weekend, I made a last minute decision to drive down to San Diego for the 4th.  I was at home on Saturday night baking some zucchini muffins and I was talking to one of my friends from down there and made the decision to get up the next morning and drive down there at 4 in the morning.  So I went out for my run that night, around 10, and while I was running made the official decision to make the trip down even though I had to be back home Monday night to go take the GRE this morning! So Sunday morning I woke up at 3:30 and was on the road by 4:15. I made it to Long Beach in 5 hrs and had to wait to eat lunch at my favorite restaurant of all time, La Creperie, so I took an hr long nap waiting until it was time for lunch.  That night I only went a mile because I was having a great time hanging out with my friends and really wasn't wanting to go out for that run at all..but I got it in!! Then yesterday morning I woke up around 8 and went outside and did a nice 4.5 mile run.  I started out on Mission Bay then as soon as I got to an area where I could cross over to run on the beach by the ocean I made the move and it was fantastic being back running along the beach on the sand.  I forget how beautiful and peaceful running along the ocean really can be.  Then I got to spend the rest of the day just hanging out with friends and friends of friends at a park BBQing and having a great time.  I am definitely glad I decided to make the short trip down, but I do wish it didn't have to end so quickly!

End of 1st month

Last night was the first time I have ran over a 10k since being back from being injured!! It feels great to finally feel like I'm getting back into running shape without anything really hurting me while I run :) When I started out last night I was planning on just doing 6. There's a loop out in the country that I know is a 6 miler starting from my house and I wanted to make sure I was out of the country area before it got too dark on me! I made it safely to the lit up area before complete darkness fell upon me. And after I did the first couple of miles I was feeling great.  As I approached my house, I wasn't at the 6 mile marker quite yet (only .15 off) and I like to make my stopping point a little distance away so I can walk back to my house a little distance. So I continued to run straight down to the next road into the surrounding neighborhood but once I got to the turn to go back towards my house I was already at 6 and a quarter so I decided I might as well just run 7 miles tonight since I'm so close anyways.  Then once I got to 7, I was only a few minutes away from running for a whole hour so I went just a little farther.  I got in that hour long run and 7.5 miles! I was pretty happy that I was able to increase my distance mileage without any pains going on in my legs and I think I'm going to try to do the same next Saturday if I'm feeling good too! Maybe hit 8 next weekend, slowly but surely increasing that distance :)

But this morning my white board calendar had ended the days on the month I have been working off of so it was time to erase and start the next month on it.  I decided it was time to add up my mileage from the starting day of May 22 (I have already donated 52 of my miles to my charity) to see where I am at.  Since May 22 I have logged 108 miles!! I'm hoping that next month it will be increasing by at least 50 more miles so hopefully by the end of July it will be another 150+ miles that I will be at. My shorter runs are starting to get longer and so are the longer runs so it should be pretty easy, I'm thinking, for me to long at least 150 miles in!

Busy Week

This week has been a very busy week, which is the reason for posting a week late.  Last Saturday I was able to run the 6 miles. I had gotten up at 4 in the morning and did insanity before I had to be at work at 5:30 to work at farmer's market all day then I proceeded to take a nice long nap when I got home from work for 3 hrs! After I finally woke up from my nap, I left to go running around 8:45-9:00.  I felt pretty good and kept a steading pace.
Then on Sunday my family went up to Pine Crest for Father's Day.  For those of you who do not know where or what Pine Crest is; it is a lake on the way up to Sonora about an hour and a half away from Modesto.  It was so gorgeous up there and the weather was absolutely perfect! We BBQed hamburgers and had a few side dishes to go along with it, delicious meal!! Did not actually get into the water since it was absolutely freezing; we've had a lot of snow melt off lately and that is what the lake is full of so there was no way I was getting in with the snow being on the mountain still a couple weeks ago! I did my run up there but made it a shorter one of 2 miles since the night before was a little longer.
Monday night ended up being an awesome run! I wasn't really looking forward to going out and doing it but once I got going I actually felt great. Before I got to running I was only planning on doing another short one for the night since I wasn't really in the mood but as I was going I decided I at least do 3 or 4.  Well I ended up going out even farther and completed 5 miles that night at a steady 7:45 pace so I was pretty happy with that!
Then Tuesday night, I was out at a friend's house. We went swimming after we ate some dinner and his friend got over to his house from work.  When we got out it was around 9:45 and I still had to go out and do my run.  I was able to convince him to go out with me (the same friend who ran with me last time) since it was later, I don't think he wanted me to go out by myself.  I told him we'd only do a mile but we doubled that and did a whole 2 miles! haha The first mile we held a good 8 min mile but then the way back we were running pretty fast keeping a 7:25 pace whenever I looked down at my watch.  So he is getting in a lot better shape than the last time we ran together because he was not dying on me this time!!
Wednesday morning ended up being a horrible run since the previous 2 nights had been harder ones.  Even though the night before was only 2 miles, I still ran pretty fast on both those runs so my legs were definitely feeling it! I did 3 miles but they were slow and my legs were screaming at me.
Thursday felt great again! I took the 3 girls that I'm cross training from the swim team out to the path by the river next to my house.  The sun was pretty intense already at 8 in the morning but not bad enough to not be able to run yet.  There were a few shaded spots on the path but most of it was out in the sun.  I ran a little farther than I had them go but they are getting faster and in better running shape than last Thursday when I ran with them so that made me happy and glad that they are starting to enjoy it more!
Finally, last night was a very short 1 mile run than was not fun to do at all. I was really tired because I had driven up to Chico right after I finished the run Thursday and had stayed up late Thursday night but worth it since I got to hang out with some great people! So by the time I drove back home yesterday and got my run in I was exhausted and I was having some pains going on so that didn't help the running.  But Friday morning I had an appointment with my chiropractor up in Chico, oh man does he work wonders! He used this tool and scraped at my ankle with it because my achilles was inflamed some from when I fell back in April on my ankle. When he bent my foot back before it was still in pain but after he used the tool my achilles was no longer in pain so hopefully the tissue will not build up again and stay un-inflamed.
Well I'm about to go on my run for tonight so I will catch you all later and I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend!!

A Few Days

Sorry guys its been a busy last few days here for me!  I've been working at this place called the Pure Joy Bakery/Lunchpail doing Farmer's Market and working the lunch shift in the store bringing the sandwiches out to the customer's so when I get home I haven't been taking the time to fill you in on my running progress.  This week has been going very good!  On Sunday I went running with one of my friends, he used to be in really good shape but he died on me that night haha. We ended up only doing 1.7 miles but we were keeping a really good pace of 7:30, I was hoping to get in 3-4 miles but I was fine with stopping when he needed to.  Then Monday through Thursday I have been doing 3-4 miles each time, slowly building my ability to keep higher mileage consecutive days in a row.  I've decided I actually really enjoy running at night time after dinner has been finished.  It is so peaceful out at night, sometimes a little sketchy but luckily my town/neighborhood is a pretty safe area so I don't feel uncomfortable running around at 9 at night.  Last night I went out at 9:15 and ran around 10, at first I wasn't sure how far I was going to be able to go but I ended up getting in a solid 4 miles and feeling pretty good most of the time.  While I was out running I got a little freak out when I ran past a skate boarder, he looked a little strange but he was harmless and went on his own way.  It's just a little more scary coming across some people at night rather than during the day, especially since I'm not running with my cell phone or anything to protect me but my own pure speed...which wouldn't help me much if someone were to grab me.  I am really looking forward to being up in Chico next weekend and being able to run up there for a few days! I'm going to try and make Saturday a 6 mile run so wish me luck and I'll be updating you after I finish it!  :)

Night Run

Ended up going for a night run tonight...and it felt amazing!!! I was only going to go out for a mile since it was 10:45 but as I got running I was feeling awesome so I just decided to keep going.  I ended up only doing 4 because I didn't want my mom to think something happened to me since the creepers are normally out at night time otherwise I probably would've continued for another 2 or 3 miles.  The temperature was absolutely perfect, it a was a little breezy but just enough to cool you off and not make it feel like you're running backwards almost.  I ran around the neighborhoods, it felt like the safest option rather than running out in the orchards or on the banks of the river where the bums hang out and sleep at night.

I'm really glad I have decided to do this goal of running everyday for a whole year because on the days where I'm just feeling a little bit lazy, I get up and get going and usually feel great afterwards and really happy that I got out there even if it ends up only being a mile.  Like today, I was originally planning on waking up at 4 am to get my run in before I had to be at work at 5:30 but somehow my phone got turned off in the middle of the night and my alarm didn't go off so I woke up to my mom telling me it was 10 after 5 and I was supposed to leave in 5 mins to get to work on time! So needless to say that morning run definitely did not happen leaving it to happen when I got home from work, which didn't happen until around 4:15 and by that time I was really tired.  Anyways it forces me to get outside and get that run in and tonight ended up being an awesome run but if I weren't doing this running everyday for a whole year challenge, I wouldn't have ever fit in that run.  I hope everyone is having a great weekend and making some plans for next weekend for Father's Day!! :)

Summer is finally here!

Since I have been home, we pretty much have still been in winter until yesterday! Yesterday was the first day we surpassed 80 degree temps :) It's nice to finally get some warm weather after all the rain we've been having lately. But it does make running a little more difficult if I don't get up and do it early in the morning because then I have to wait until after 8 to get it in. On Tuesday, I did my run around 8:15 and went on the trail along the river. I decided that I will probably no longer be doing that run at that time anymore...bad idea! Forgot that bugs come when the sun is setting, definitely got bugs flying at me in my eyes and mouth! Wasn't too much fun running with my eyes closed on a dirt path but I managed and ran through the swarm of bugs.  Also with the weather not warming up, all the plants and trees are not drying out which leads to allergies still being extremely bad which makes it really difficult to get up in the mornings because my eyes feel like I've been crying for days so yesterday ended up being a 2 miles treadmill run in the afternoon followed by a great weight workout :) sometimes there can be benefits to running on a treadmill haha.

So this morning's run ended up being just a little bit longer than planned. My swim coach Ervin is wanting me to cross train a couple of the girls on the swim team so I am taking them out running with me every Monday and Thursday.  Since they are not used to running at all, I'm slowly easing them into it. So Monday I took them out for a small 2 mile run but added in a tiny hill up the overpass to push them a little harder.  Then today I was only planning on doing a 3 mile run but the loop I took ended up being 3.8, also adding in 2 overpasses to today's run so we got in 2 little hills to climb up.  I wish I had a great big park to take them to here so its prettier/more enjoyable than running through town all the time. But one of the girl's lives on a ranch and so I think next week we're going to go there and do a run in the orchards!

Found a charity to donate to :)

http://www.crowdrise.com/yearlongfundraisinga1

Above is the link to connect to a website where you can connect to my page to donate to a charity called Tyler's Hope for Dystonia Cure Inc.  It is a non-profit organization committed to funding neurology research to prevent and cure DYT1 Dystonia; while creating awareness of this disorder. Dystonia is a neurological movement disorder characterized by involuntary muscle contractions, which force certain parts of the body into abnormal, sometimes painful, movements or postures. Dystonia can affect any part of the body including the arms and legs, trunk, neck, eyelids, face, or vocal cords.  I am hoping to help raise as much money for this charity as possible and I will also be donating as I continue to run my mileage every day!

Surprisingly on Sunday, the day after the finish of RTO, when I went out for my mile long run it was not near as painful as I was expecting it to be. I was still sore from the hill running and my calves were a little tight but if it wasn't for being out running at 10 pm or that I don't want to re-injure myself, I probably could've gone out for a 3 to 4 mile run.  Then yesterday I went out for my run after I finished swim practice.  I am now running Monday's and Wednesday's with a few girls on the swim team that my swim coach wants me to give them a hard workout running to give them some cross training.  So we only went out for a 2 mile run since they never really run and I didn't want to kill them too bad on their very first day of it! But we did run up and overpass and I made them run up a very small hill 5 times to give them a little bit a hard work :)

So far this adventure has been really fun and I love that it makes me get off my butt for at least 10 minutes everyday, not that I sit down much as it is, but sometimes those lazy days will creep up on you.  I hope you are enjoying it so far and now you'll get to hear from both Liz and me :)

RTO - Reno Tahoe Odyssey

The last few days have been some of the most tiring but fun days ever! Starting on Friday, June 3rd, I participated in a running relay event called Reno Tahoe Odyssey.  It consisted of 12 runner's who ran throughout the night completing 178 miles total :)  It was an awesome experience and I couldn't have asked for better teammates especially those who put up with having me in the car (April, Paul, Sonya, Ramon, and Jessica)! We started at 2 pm on Friday afternoon with April taking the 1st leg and finished around 1:10 pm on Saturday, June 4th, with Lisa pulling in the rear.  I ran a little over 15 miles total between all my legs and happily caught some people on the last 2 legs! I was so thankful that my legs and hip held up with me throughout all the runs.  I was afraid that either my shins or my hip were going to crap out on me during some point of the runs but they came out strong and not feeling bad today either so it looks like I'm getting back to being able to run longer without injury! I say that everyone who enjoys running should put themselves through the pain of doing a relay journey at some point in their running careers...totally worth the pain and lack of sleep!

Memorial Day

The final day of the three day weekend is here.  Yesterday turned out to be a great day overall but the run was a little on the not so fun part of it.  My cousin's grad party turned out great and we had an amazing meal with great company.  All her friends were able to come and join in on the festivities and I finally got to meet her boyfriend of a couple months.  After the party was when I decided to get my run in for the day.  I did it along the banks of the canal by my house and it felt like I had lead weights attached to my ankles so I stopped it at 3 miles since I am trying to keep the running going while preventing any injuries on my body.  The wind has also been in full swing these last few days so I am hoping for it to die down here sometime soon!  After I finished my run, I went bowling with my cousin, her husband, my mom, and my aunt...oh man lets just say we are not the best bowlers on the planet haha.  My cousin-in-law, Casey, did pretty good both rounds and my aunt, Caroline, did pretty well also but everyone else not so good.  But we had a great time which is all that really matters.

So far today it has been extremely nice outside, the wind is a little less fierce which is making the day look very promising! :) Today's run will be a short one of 1 mile since I don't want to overdo it for the upcoming weekend, I'm doing the Reno-Tahoe Odyssey.  I started out this morning by going to swim practice, which I haven't been to in a couple months and really haven't had a great workout in about 4 months so it felt awesome to be back in the water! I love coming home and being able to go back to my old swim team and swim for the best coach ever, Ervin Zador.  He has been like a grandpa to me and is always there for me if I need him. In the next few minutes I will be going out for my run for the day. Then later its party time again and I will be heading out to another cousin's house to celebrate their birthdays.  So we get delicious food again today and I get another great day with my family!

Great run

So yesterday I was only planning on doing a short 3 or 4 miles to end the week with but as I was running, it just felt so good that I had to continue going and ended up running 6.3 miles doubling what I originally intended on. Luckily I'm not feeling any pain in the hips or the shins :)  I realized yesterday how much I truly missed running at home rather than in a giant city.  I chose to run through the orchards yesterday which was amazingly beautiful and so peaceful with no one around you but the sound of the wind blowing through the trees and the crunching of the sticks under my feet.  Later today I will probably do around 3 to 4 miles and this time not going over the intended mileage! But before that will be happening, I have my cousin's graduation party to go to.  She is finally graduating from good old high school and will be attending Chico State in the fall!  Congrats Kristi!!  We are going to be having a fantastic meal as her grad party, my uncle is fixing up some BBQed tri-tip, some baked beans, a pasta salad, then my mom is bringing over her taco salad...yum yum!! Today is going to be a great day :)  I hope every one else is enjoying their memorial day weekend and hopefully your weather is a little warmer than our's here

A year long journey

Hey everyone,

I am new to this so bare with me :)

On Tuesday night I was reading Runner's World magazine and I came across an article about someone who made their New Year's resolution to run every day for the whole entire year.  I became inspired after that article and decided I am going to do the same thing but obviously starting a few months after January 1st.  So even though I made this decision on Wednesday, May 25, my year started on Monday May 23! Then I texted my friend Liz, who is also apart of this blog, and got her to join me in the journey.  She will begin her running on June 1st as it is her final day at Disney, so she is leaving one journey to begin another! We have decided to put aside $1 for every mile that we run and at the end of this running adventure we are going to put all that money towards a charity.  As of right now we have not decided which charity or charities we are going to donate to.  Hopefully that decision will be made in the next few days!  Also we have decided that as long as 1 mile is run for a single day that it will count as a run, just as long as we are out there getting in some mileage.  I am also using this to hopefully help me prevent myself from injury because since I have started being a runner, I have had my fair share of injuries that have prevented me from running for months at a time and from doing multiple races.  I'm hoping that since I am going to be using this in order to help me slowly build up on my mileage that it will get my bones, legs, and hips used to the impact that running has on our bodies.  I hope you all enjoy reading about our year long running adventure and maybe inspire some of you to join along with us!
